    07.04.2008 Welcome KATIE!

It is bittersweet to welcome the newest member of our family-Katie. She is an adorable Tabby kitten just 8 weeks old that we adopted today.
It is Bittersweet because we lost the youngest member of our family, PIXIE, while were were on vacation. She got hit by a car, both pelvises crushed, and DeRell had to put her down. I cried all the tears i had, we said goodbye to Pixie over the phone and i know that Pixie knew we loved her soooo much. She is dancing in kitty heaven with her new legs and we will honor her here by taking in another cat that, like Pixie, would be euthanized if we didn't step in and adopt her.
We felt we needed to "get right back on the horse" with another cat. But we already know she can never replace Pixie. Pixie was the ultimate cat. So ugly she was cute and so tolerant of the kids it was amazing. We'll miss you Pix!

Katie jumped right in and became a member of our Pack. =) Here is Daddy, Shadow, Max and Katie all sleeping or lounging on our bed!

It has been a hard transition with Katie. First off she is much younger than our last cat. At only 8 weeks, she is so small. We adopted Pixie when she was 6 months old. Typical kitten, she claws and scrathes everything and everyone. It's awful. After a week DeRell was ready to take her back. I said we need to give her more time. We all have to sleep with our doors closed bcuz she was jumping up and clawing the kids & us in the middle of the night. We'll try to keep you updated, she is so cute it's hard to fault her. She is not nearly as accepting of the kids as Pixie was either. Oh, and she has a tail. Not good, that leaves something for Bubba to pull! (another advantage of Pixie who had no tail)
